Duccio Grassi was invited to design the interiors of the Al Hamra Luxury MultiComplex, designed by the American firm SOM: the interior design of the main public spaces of the Al Hamra Tower like the main Lobby, Sky Lobbies and the five stories mall. The whole project was developed within the limits of the structure, considering those boundaries as a stimulus for new solutions rather than obstacles. The Main Lobby itself is maybe the most complicated space and nonetheless the most representative area of the whole building: a huge space with impressive dimensions dominated by a suspended sculpture: an art-feature made of polished steel beams intertwined in a complex design. This structure connects both optically and physically the Main Lobby to the mall, becoming the leitmotiv of the interior design project: a graphic design of sharp lines and angles that is clearly recognizable in many details such as the special special barrisol-made false ceiling, crossed by diagonal cuts of light, or the flooring design that recalls the lines combining different stones into a captivating design. This edgy look is proposed again in special custom-made furniture pieces at the basement floor, that contribute to the unique elegance and astonishing luxury of the whole complex, further accentuated by the choice of finest Italian furniture for the styling of the VIP lounge at the second floor. DGA designed the central plaza and made it more fluid in its shapes contrasting the straight lines that distinguish the false ceiling and the flooring. These softer lines evoke the typical conviviality of the traditional Italian “piazza”. The vertical connection tower that contains the elevators was transformed into a giant focus feature by covering its brand new elliptical surface with a maxi LED wall with decreasing resolution: images fade away from the center and are rarefied on the edges. This innovative and high-impact item can certainly be considered the icon of the mall. The shopping mall is a unique experience of luxury that hosts high-end fashion brands, perfectly combined in an elegant and charming appeal that DGA managed to achieve through an accurate selection of the materials and their match.
